Stinging Nettle Information
Stinging nettle is a perennial plant that can be found
growing in Canada, the U.S. in Europe. It is an ancient remedy for
everything from asthma, arthritis, snakebites, urinary tract
inflammation, and even excessive menstruation.
As you can probably infer, this herb also gets its name from the
prickly needles on its dark green leaves. They sting and even burn
upon contact.
Benefits
There are many therapeutic benefits ascribed to stinging
nettle as mentioned but its commonly viewed to help an enlarged
prostate (BPH). Here are some key health benefits of stinging
nettle:
- Fights urinary tract infections. It helps flush harmful
bacterial as well from the system
- Has potent immune boosting and inflammatory properties
- Helps treat prostate problems. This is where it's become
most popular in the last few years. It should be noted, however, that it
doesn't prevent prostate problems, it helps in the treatment of an
enlarged prostate.
- Helps reduce allergy symptoms by inhibiting the release of
histamine.
Stinging nettle has some wonderful therapeutic benefits for men,
especially in the treatment of an already enlarged prostate gland.
However, if you need help in both preventing and treating an
enlarged prostate (the cause of the urination problems endemic to prostate health
issues), we recommend you consider beta sitosterol,
cornsilk, and lycopene over a stinging nettle remedy.
Beta sitosterol is thousands of times more potent than
even Saw Palmetto -- a popular prostate herb. One of the authors of
this site had an enlarged prostate and was able to resolve it with
these three substances. Together, they form a
synergistically optimized strength that powerfully combats prostate
issues.
Side Effects of Stinging Nettle: Precautions
& Guidelines
If taking stinging nettle with prescription
medication such as diclofenac, make sure you discuss it with your
doctor first. Herbs are
rich in highly active ingredients and while they are food, they are
also potent medicines when used with judgment and
skill.
Choosing a Prostate Supplement
1. Look for a standardized
extract that contains 13% total sterols. Also look for a
combination of prostate health herbs like cornsilk, stinging nettle, beta sitosterol, or
lycopene all in one as they work synergistically.
2. The supplements should be produced at pharmaceutical standard
GMP registered facilities. Facilities that are GMP registered
comply with the most rigid standards so as to minimize the
possibility of product contaminants.
(These are the same standards pharmaceutical companies in the
United States are required to operate under as mandated by the
FDA.) Dietary supplements are not regulated by FDA and as such
fraud is rampant with many so-called supplements containing
contaminants with 1 in 5 not having the ingredients as proclaimed
on the label! Click here to read more about this.
3. Ensure the supplement manufacturer has a Certificate of
Analysis (COA) on file for review by you the customer thus
confirming the potency of the herbal ingredients listed on the
label.
4. Ideally, make sure the supplement does not contain any
fillers or additives such as sucrose (sugar), starch, gluten,
silica(sand) or any other
artificial colors, dyes, or flavors. NOTE: (If you are dead
set on only using stinging
nettle, I recommend you buy only freeze-dried or
standardized extract. Drink it as a steep by preparing it as an
infusion (making tea out of its medicinal leaves).
A Quality Product?
The best supplement for prostate health, in our view is one we
discovered after a lot of prolonged research. One of the authors of
this site had BPH and was looking for a specific male prostate multivitamin that could help
to relieve an enlarged prostate.
This male multivitamin product made by a New
Zealand company though a supplement, is actualy pharmaceutical
grade. It has over 400 mgs of cornsilk, beta sitosterol,
and lycopene. This supplement meets the requirements discussed
above and more.
This prostate supplement is not just a prostate specific product.
There are versions specifically for men, women, and a generic
unisex version. All contain over 70
nutrients including but not limited to herbal
extracts, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, trace
nutrients, etc. It is a complete vitamin supplement.
I have been using this vitamin supplement for men for a little over
a year and have experienced better levels of energy, better
sleep, better urinary and prostate functionality as well as
other health benefits.
I hope this Stinging Nettle article has been useful to
you.
