Pygeum Africanum Info
Welcome to my Pygeum Africanum web page... As you could
probably guess from the name, this herb is native to Africa. It is
a traditional African medicine. Its sterols, which are its highly
active compounds, are found in the powdered bark of a evergreen
tree with the Latin name of pygeum africanum.
In the Western world, it is usually taken in tablet or tincture
form and is usually combined with other potent anti-prostate
medicinal herbs like Saw Palmetto and Stinging Nettle.
Health Benefits
This herb's main therapeutic quality is it helps eliminate and
soothe men's prostate problems.
If you are over 35 and male, your prostate health is something you
need to be aware of. Prostate problems usually manifest themselves
via excessive urination, constantly urinating at night, and pain
while urinating as well.
Pygeum helps not only benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
and prostate health in general, but it is currently being tested
for treating impotence and male infertility.
Quite frankly, while pygeum africanum is a superb herb for
prostate health, it is not the
best. Saw Palmetto is also another herb renowned for its
potent prostate health promoting qualities.
Even Saw Palmetto and pygeum combined, though, are not
the most powerful prostate health oriented herbs. What is? Beta
sitosterol. Researchers believe that beta
sitosterol is massively, significantly more effective in
treating prostate problems than Pygeum Africanum, Saw Palmetto,
cornsilk, Stinging Nettle, or even Lycopene.
As mentioned in the first section, it is the sterol part of the
herb that makes it so potent. Saw Palmetto pygeum africanum, and
cornsilk have sterols used to help cure prostate issues, but beta
sito-sterol is more concentrated. Please don't misunderstand. We
are not denigrating the capability of pygeum africanum in
the fight for prostate health -- it is a star. But
beta sitosterol is
an superstar.
Pygeum Side Effects & Recommended
Precautions
There are no negative nutrient interactions with Pygeum Africanum,
nor is there any negative consequence with prescribed drugs.
The only real reported
problems of pygeum side effects is stomach upset and nausea. As
always, however, consult with your physician before
embarking upon any supplementation program -- especially if you are taking
over-the-counter medications.
Choosing a Prostate Supplement
1. Look for a standardized
extract that contains 13% total sterols. Also look for a
combination of prostate health herbs like cornsilk, beta
sitosterol, and lycopene all in one as they work
synergistically.
2. The supplements should be produced at pharmaceutical standard
GMP registered facilities. Facilities that are GMP registered
comply with the most rigid standards so as to minimize the
possibility of product contaminants. (These are the same
standards pharmaceutical companies in the United States are
required to operate under as mandated by the FDA.) Dietary
supplements are not regulated by FDA and as such fraud is rampant
with many so-called supplements containing contaminants with 1 in 5
not having the ingredients as proclaimed on the label! Click here for more info on this.
3. Ensure the supplement manufacturer has a Certificate of
Analysis (COA) on file for review by you the customer thus
confirming the potency of the herbal ingredients listed on the
label.
Recommendation
The best supplement for prostate health, in our view, a New
Zealand company's multivitamin supplement engineered
specifically for men It has over 400 mgs of cornsilk, beta
sitosterol, and lycopene. This supplement meets the
requirements discussed above and more. This men's health
supplement is not just a
prostate-specific product. There are versions
specifically for men, women, and a generic unisex version. All
contain over 80 nutrients including but not limited to herbal
extracts, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, trace
nutrients, etc.
It is a complete supplement. I've been using this
men's multivitamin supplement for a little
over a year and have experienced better levels of energy, better
sleep, better urinary and prostate functionality as well as
other health benefits. In fact, it's cured one of the author's
of this site of his BPH prostate problem.
I hope this Pygeum Africanum web pagehas been useful to
you.
Yours in health, hope, and harmony,
