Pharmaceutical Grade Fish
Oil?
There are many different liquid fish oil
supplements on the market but actually none qualify as
pharmaceutical grade fish oil. Why is
that? We have clear up something.
There are
no pharmaceutical grade fish oil supplements on the market
today!
I know this may come as a surprise and paradigm shift to you.
The truth is, if you'll excuse the pun, it's a red herring.
Let me explain. Believe it or not, that term -- pharmaceutical
grade fish oil -- has been created by supplement marketers in
order to sell product, nothing more.
That said, are there standards for purity and
quality that at least approximate pharmaceutical
grade fish oil?
Yes, there are.
Fish Oil Pills, EPA and DHA & More "Pharmaceutical Grade"
Info
While the benefits of fish oil EPA and DHA are significant, can
one obtain a "cleaned" fish oil? The answer is
an emphatic yes, but there are certain things to look
for.
- Only buy approximated pharmaceutical grade fish oil
EPA and DHA supplements (We will discuss the pharmaceutical grade
fish oil term momentarily). This ensures the fish oil has been
molecularly distilled. Molecular distillation separates
the heavy metals from the healthy fish. DO
NOT settle for any non-molecularly distilled fish oil and only
settle for a fish oil pill supplement that meets at least the made
up "pharmaceutical grade fish oil" supplements
- Consider contacting the supplement company to ask where they
obtain their source fish. The cleaner the ocean waters, which have
been increasingly polluted with industrial pollutants worldwide,
the better
- Find out the purifying process. The more rigid the
better
One company meets these criteria. Their Omega 3 fish oil EPA and DHA supplement
utilizes deep, cold-water fish called Hoki (and south Pacific
tuna) that are found off the Southern ocean of New Zealand. As
stated on the company's website saying:
"The Southern Ocean at this latitude (unlike its northern
counterpart) is not exposed to any form of industrial pollutants,
but nonetheless the fish still goes through extensive molecular
distillation processes to remove any form of contamination at all,
whether that be natural or man made. We were also fortunate that
the fish selected is also naturally high in DHA making it even more
attractive."
Approximately 50% of their Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil is taken from
New Zealand hoki fish located in a pristine area of the Southern
Ocean where there has never been exposure to contaminants and heavy
metals. The rest from south Pacific tuna.
Unlike the North Sea which is unfortunately becoming polluted,
the area where the hoki are located is not near shipping lines. The
hoki fish and its oil contain no detectable contaminants
whatsoever.
Moreover, with the south Pacific tuna, they not only utilize
molecularly distilled fish oil made from the fish body but it's put
through a special proprietary purifying process that ensures an
even higher level of purity that can be garnered through rigid
molecular distillation alone. No other company does
this.
Just how pure is this pharmaceutical grade fish oil?
Look at this graphic below:

Let's analyze this for a moment. Purity is measured
in by determining the levels following components in the
fish oil: dioxins, heavy metals and PCBs. When you peruse this
Certificate of Analysis (COA), you will see that the company whose
product I use exceeds the various international standard
requirements. (Incidentally, ppb means parts per billion and ppt
means parts per trillion.)
It should be mentioned that the organization IFOS
is a private organization that a lot of fish oil marketing
companies use for testing and showcase in their marketing
materials. The other three are reputable and produce acceptable
standards of testing and certification.
Let's go into that info a little more.
As you can see, this company's
standard for mercury is set at the level of detection at 10ppb
(parts per billion). None was detected. If you look at the
international standards as given in the table, you'll notice the
international organizations listed have set their acceptable levels
at 100ppb, which is ten times higher. Now that is
purity and approximates what is perceived to be pharmaceutical
grade fish oil!
For total PCBs, their standards are 18 times
below the level set by the CRN. Their total dioxin level
is set at a level that is approximately four times
lower than the other organizations in the table!
Simply put, what
you're seeing here is that one supplement manufacturer's own
standards and certified purity levels exceeds all governmental
standards. I take their fish oil pills
supplement and I recommend you should too, if you want the best
that's out there. That said, though, it is certainly up to you.
Conclusion
Finding molecularly distilled, pharmaceutical grade fish oil EPA
and DHA is difficult as supplement fraud is rampant. Therefore, you
might want to check out this company's fish oil pills
that approximate what you're looking for when you came to this
page: fish oil supplement.

I've personally been taking this company's supplements,
including their DHA fish oil one, for the past eight years and have
noticed increased health in every way including higher energy
reserves.
Yours in health,
