Colon Cleanse Log
Colon Cleansing Checklist
Editor's Note: To see the current daily entry, scroll down to the end of this page.
Hello, I realize very few people will probably ever read this blog on my experiment with colon cleansing, but it should help me a little to stay on track. My goal is to cleanse my colon by eating nothing but fiber-rich food for 60 straight days. That means I will eat nothing but raw fruit, vegetables, and grains. I will eat no processed foods. The rules for this experiment will be as follows:
- Drink only fruit juices, water, and herbal teas -- no soda pop of any kind, not even Hansens
- Non-meat soups are okay
- Only eat raw fruit, vegetables, and grains -- canned fruit is okay; these are foods that cleanse your body naturally
- Granola bars are okay notwithstanding the sugars The idea is to fill my intestinal track daily with an abundance of fiber. In order to facilitate this cleaning out of my intestines,
I will also do the following:
- Drink a glass of cayenne pepper water a day or my "cayenne pepper detoxification drink" as I called it in this article Cayenne Pepper and Heart Health.
- Drink a daily glass of combination of slippery elm and psyllium seed -- this helps bulk up fecal matter for elimination and is a "secret" of herbal medicine practitioners.
- Take Dr. John Christopher colon cleanse herbal supplements. Included is kidney, liver, and bloodstream cleaning herbs as well.
I know this will not be easy, but I've done it before. In 1982 while working as an assistant surveryor at Strawberry Reservoir near Heber City, Utah, I followed a diet for 30 days that was comprised of nothing but fiber. I actually didn't do it that effectively. I allowed myself fruit juice and water and ate a lot of canned fruit during that time. I also ate a lot of granola bars as well. After about 30 days almost to the day, I had an interesting experience, which I'll share in a moment.
First, some quick context. During the 30-day period, I was urninating A LOT. This is a classic cleansing sign. I was urinating about seven to 10 times a day. I was also young at the time and had a lot of natural energy. I say this as some might think I had a prostate problem, but no I didn't. Once I stopped this diet, the constant unination stopped. Now, let me share with you the experience that told me I was on to something. This will go down as one of the great colon cleansing stories.
Okay, this is a little bit ... well, scatalogical to talk about for talking about body elimination is not something people talk about at parties. Here goes. After about 30 days of this diet, I was out and about on the job in the Strawberry Reservoir when I had to defecate -- seven times. Yes, you read that right. Not all at once, of course. It was over a period of about 4 or 5 hours.
I was lucky I was working outdoors at the time. I'll never forget the last time. I was yelling to my boss to pull the truck over and having no other option, I did it at the entry of a ditch. Fortunately, I was out of sight. When I defecated, it wasn't just a little bit -- each time I defecated, it was large, snake-like piles. I felt strangely refreshed, and my stomach was very soft and pliable. A classic sign of someone who has a compacted colon is the hardness of the body just above the genitalia -- about three inches or so. The protruding of my stomach and the protruding of my love handles was gone. I weighed at the time about 145 or 150 pounds at the most at a height of 5'11'' so you can see I was not obese, far from it. Now to the truly astonishing part.
My boss and I, who had been deriding me on the fact that I had to stop and constantly urinate and defecate, had to stop by the main office out in the field for some business matter. He told me to stay in the truck as he was still irritated with me so I did. While waiting for him, I happened to glance at myself in the rear-view mirror. What I saw astounded me -- my eyes had turned blue! I kid you not nor do I exaggerate! I shouldn't say they "turned" blue, "went" blue would be more accurate.
A iridologist friend of mine who was/is an "herbal medicine man", if you will, told me upon meeting me about a year previously that my colon was packed. He could tell, he said, through looking at my eyes. He told me then that my eyes were actually blue with the brown in them indicative of a challenged intestinal system. He also told me a few other things about myself that were very private but were accurate nonetheless, all information gleaned from reading my eyes. This astonished me at the time. I was stunned and delighted by my eyes changing color.
But it didn't last. Something that previously came in manageable waves hit me like a tsunami -- addiction withdrawals. Strange cravings for different foods hit me, e.g., cookies, anything cooked, cake, chips, etc. On the way home from the job that evening, my boss along with his brother suggested we go to Pizza Hut. Mistake. When I walked in, the smell of pizza was overwhelming. I walked in thinking I was going to get a salad, but instead I put myself in harm's way. If you think your sex drive is strong, think again. I utterly lusted after that pizza. As we sat at the table, he said to me, "Are you going to order some real food or just go for another salad?" I struggled between my desire to test my newly clean colon further over the desire for something more satisfying to eat. I chose the pizza and absolutely gorged on it. I was like a lion hovering over recently killed prey.
The next morning, my blue eyes were gone and showed themselves brown again -- just like they were before. But it didn't stop there. The cravings kept coming. It was really difficult to deal with to be honest. When I got back home in Logan, Utah a couple of days later, I went over to a grocery store and bought a bag of cookies, the latest craving du jour, and practically ate the whole bag before I left the parking lot. As my system was so clean, I broke with the worse case of pimples I've ever had the very next day.
Eventually, while I did maintain a vegetarian diet, I allowed myself to eat sugar products and cooked foods. I abstained from milk products, eggs, and of course meat of all kinds for about seven years but slowly started re-introduced meat to my diet in small quantities. As it is, I still rarely eat meat.
When I do eat it, it's part of a pizza or something like that. I never buy red meat to cook. I don't even buy skinless chicken patties either. Too much protein in the system can cause a build up of nitrogen and that buildup can cause your hair to go prematurely gray -- something I experienced when eating chicken everyday for about two months while testing myself with my bodybuilding and diet endeavors. I can count on one hand the number of steaks or red meat portions I've had since 1982. Now, I've clogged my colon due to a real weakness of mine -- eating a lot of junk food and processed food. I admit it -- I'm a junk food addict. I love cookies, candy bars, muffins, cakes, ice cream, ice cream bars, chips, you name it. Just six years ago, I was in phenomenal shape.
I was around 165 pounds and had a bodyfat percentage of 8%. I was working out all the time and was really proud of myself. People noticed my muscularity too, something I thought would never happen. But then life, as it tends to do, hit me with a few difficult experiences that brought me more and more to food as a "consoling friend" or as a coping strategy of choice.
The result is that I've gained weight -- I'm around 180 pounds right now, which is a lot for me considering I've always been very lean. I also have the beginnings of a double chin, something I thought I'd never have. My goal is to cleanse my colon and to experiment with a really clean diet.
Now that I'm older and wiser, I think I can deal with the cravings that will inevitably come. My other goal is to be healthier. I want to be active as I get older for I really enjoy playing sports and physical activity. Once the 60 days are over, I will eat some tasty things here and there, even once or twice a week, but I will be more mindful of the food I eat. I have tended to eat food recreationally instead of for sustenance. Ben Franklin was right when he said, "Many live to eat instead of eat to live."
Tonight, I'm going to have a last meal of something like chicken or something like that -- something processed, of course :) Later, I'll have some chips and salsa, another one of my favorite snacks. Tomorrow will be day one. This journal or blog will chronicle my experiences as I seek to cleanse my colon. I hope you enjoy my colon cleaning stories as they come. I'll report the good, the bad, the ugly. I'll report and let you decide.
Day One - January 13
Today, I ate two bananas in the morning, a granola bar, two glasses of lemonade, two glasses of water, a bowl of popcorn in the evening and my main meal was brown rice and beans. I felt no addiction pangs today but I know this is only day one. One thing that was kind of weird, though, was my heightened awareness of so many food commercials on TV. I watched NFL American football today (it's the playoffs) and I was struck by the spate of unending fast-food commercials on the TV. I know this sounds odd but I didn't really notice them as keenly before. There were Taco Bell commercials, Burger King, McDonalds, Subway, etc. The fast-food industry must have a lot of money to spend on advertising for you can't sling a dead cat without coming across a lot of fast-food commercials.
I told a friend about my plans today and he said he's interested to see how it turns out. A lot of people have a lot of strange ideas about colon cleansing facts. One online page said that colon cleansing with epson salts is the way to go. "What?" I thought to myself. That's ludicrous. Colon cleansing with epson salts is like cleansing your colon with saw dust. It's ridiculous. The best colon cleansing is done through fiber-rich diet and natural laxative herbs like a combination of slippery elm and psyllium seed drink. The best colon cleansing is done through natural means, in other words. Foods that can cleanse your body are natural and mostly like vegetables and fruits.
Day Two - January 14
I ate two large apples, one granola bar, a glass of water, and that's it so far. No addiction pains yet. I probably shouldn't write that as I'm kind of beign aware of it and that expectation of negativity isn't good. Again, watched football today and again, a plethora of fast-food commercials. Again, a good herb to cleanse the digestive system is not a single herb at all but a combination of slippery elm and psyllium seed. Most herbs work best when used in conjunction with each other. This combination is also among the good three day colon cleansers. So, for those looking for good home remedies to cleanse the body of toxins, this is a good combination of herbs. In time, I'll add free colon cleansing receipes as well.
I recently wrote an article that is published on Ezine Articles right now. (You can read about it at this site: CayennePepper.info.)
Day Three - January 15 - Is Colon Cleansing Safe?
I am still on the wagon, as it were. Nothing to report really. I kept my pledge. Just fiber today. I had a big bowl of cucumbers today. I was surprised at how I had to fight eating it as I wasn't really that hungry. One of the things that I've been doing a while now is taking two small Metamucil crackers with eight ounces of juice. They work really well in building up bulk in the system for elimination. They're not as effective as a glass of slippery elm and psyllium seed, but it certainly helps. I've noticed my feces a day after I take it is substantially thicker and more abundant then when I don't take it. This natural colon cleansing product is easily obtained and inexpensive.
For those who wonder is colon cleansing safe I can answer yes. (Remember, I've done this before.) These colon cleansing herbs are very safe.
Day Four - January 16 - Colon Cleansing Recipe
This morning I drank the "colon cleansing recipe" drink for lack of a better term. I'd rather drink the cayenne pepper cleanse drink that I talk about on that page. It's hot but not as hard to drink as the slippery elm and psyllium seed drink. It's thick if you mix it right and if you put just the right amount of liquid in so you can stir it up. I had a dry heave when I drank it this morning as I've not taken it in a while. The other thing I ate today is a plate of brown rice with vegetarian chili. I don't feel hungry at all. I feel full. Yesterday too. Yesterday, I ate two big apples as well and felt good. Well, that's it for now. If you're interested in conversing with me about this, feel free to email me at greschke at email dot uophx dot edu (the "dot" is a period -- I'm writing it this way to avoid having this email address scrapped.)
Day Five - January 17 - Colon Cleansing Checklist
So far so good. I drank the slippery elm and psyllium seed drink again today. It was easier as I took it yesterday. It's still difficult to drink, though. But its effects are really fantastic in helping to evacuate the bowels. This is gross but I'm sure I've must got at least 20 pounds of old fecal matter in my intestines. Don't laugh -- I'll bet that's the case with you too. Perhaps more. Again, I want to emphasize that these colon cleansing herbs are safe. I also ate last night a plate of brown rice and kidney beans that I put seasoned with some curry powder. It wasn't that bad. More fiber in the system so that's good.
I had my first inordinate desire for something cooked last night. Of course, it was triggered by a TV commercial -- Pizza Hut to be specific. It did look good. I ignored it and am still on the wagon.
Day Six - January 18 - easy natural at home remedies to cleanse body of thc
Drank the slippery elm and psyllium seed drink again today. I did last night, during the early morning hours before rising, have some pain in my kidney area on my left side. I think it's because of the work the non allergenic colon cleansing herbs are doing. I am okay now but I do feel really full. I just ate two medium-sized apples so I'm not hungry, but I am beginning to want cooked food or something more palatable. This is certainly a all natural colan cleanse. (I misspelled that word deliberately due for search engine relevance -- same thing with the title for day 6.) Day's not over yet so I'll report more later. I would just say that easy natural at home remedies to cleanse body of thc are best found in natural means. Cayenne pepper and psyllium seed and slippery elm are good herbs to facilitate cleansing.
Day Seven - January 19 - Colon Cleansing Checklist
Still on the wagon. Again, I drank the the slippery elm and psyllium seed drink again today. It's certainly getting easier and easier to drink it. I've drank more of that concocotion than I've drank in a long time. It does work, though. I've had some good bowel movements the last two days. (Gross to discuss I know.) I ate some kiwis, orange slices, and essense bread today, which is total fiber. I've certainly been eating a lot less food. In the evening, I ate a couple of microwaved potatoes with homemade salsa sauce, chopped green olives, and a dash of buttermilk salad dressing (low fat). Seasoned with sea salt and pepper. It was actually very good and very filling. I think I was missing the carbohydrates in my diet as I was feeling weak as the afternoon wore on. I think eating good carbohydrate foods is important when doing this diet.
I feel a little guilty as I've not taken a glass of cayenne pepper or a glass of my cayenne pepper detoxification drink since I started this 60-day regime. I will, though. It's an important point of the colon cleansing checklist. For the first time today I felt some real desire for something like pizza or enchiladas. It quickly passed, though.
Day Eight - January 20th
Had a good day. I went grocery shopping today. Before I went though, I had a Jamba Juice smoothy using the card my friend bought me for Christmas. It was delicious and very filling. I had the Carribean Passion one, I think, with the energy boost. Again took the psyllium seed & slippery elm drink. I've definitely had some things moving around in my intestinal tract. I can feel it. Most people don't even know what their colon feels like or when things are moving there due to the peristalic action. I think I've lost a little weight for the fat around my stomach is less and I can see more definition in my abdominal region. Of course, I've been working out with weights this week and I think that affects it. As it is, I have love handles although not grotesquely large ones and a very obvious growth of fat around my midsection. I guess my bodyfat right now is about 20%.
Day Nine - January 21st -
Had a banana this morning. Still on the diet.
Day 11 - January 23
I'm ill. I think this is part of the normal cleanse that happens when one changes their diet. I have a painful cough that is loud and raspy. Plus, it hurts -- a lot when I actually cough. My voice is raspy too. Maybe it's just a physical reaction when I heard St. Hillary The Carpetbagger from New York (or is it Arkansas or Illinois) was running for president. Oh, I'm sorry, I meant "starting a conversation with America." Or, to initiate an "exploratory committee" for the presidency. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seeing how the media kisses her ass nauseates me. I'm no Republican, I'm an Independent, but this woman is a Leftist and evil. She craves the presidency and publicity as a vampire craves blood.
Back to the diet. I'm still on the fiber diet. I've lost 5 pounds and can see the difference in my waist although I still have a ways to go. I'm 177.5 and I want to get down to 160 pounds and a 5% bodyfat. I'm going to continue the diet and will today have a cup or two of herbal tea with lemon. I will also have a big vegetable salad tonight and some oranges this morning. I didn't write yesterday as I wasn't up to it.
Day 12 - January 24
I'm ill. I have a kind of bronchial pnemonia. It hurts every time I cough. I've had a lot of phlegm come up and this is a tell-tale sign of a cleanse. I'm still following the diet. Tonight I will have a large vegetable salad. I'm also thinking I need something more potent than the psyllium seel & slippery elm drink. It works, don't get me wrong. But I need to faciliate the removal of old fecal matter debris on the intestine and colon walls. I'm wondering if I should get something like the dual action cleanse I see advertised on TV. Or, some other colon cleaning product. I'm wondering if there is a better colon cleansing board kits available on the market and if so which one works the best. It's something I'm going to look into. Ideally, I'd like a all natural colan cleanse product (misspelled for the search engines as it's a good keyword). There are definitely some strange ideas out there. The parasite cleanse using castor oil is one that gets search engine hits inexplicably. Castor oil.....ewwwwwww...gross.
So what are the best foods that cleanse your body? Horseradish is great for cleansing the sinuses. Juniper berry is good for cleansing the kidneys. Obviously, I'm a big proponent of psyllium seed and slippery elm together are great for cleansing the colon and intestines. The best foods are vegetables and fruits that are brimming with fiber -- like cauliflower, cabbage (especially good), broccoli, apples, pears, carrots, etc. In reality, they are the "home remedies to cleanse the body of toxins" if you ask me, and my knowledge is based on experience and what carefully chosen experts say. My loyalty is not to dogma but to truth whatever truth that is.
Day 19 - Feb. 1st
I am still on the colon purge even though I've not written about it. I had a small bout what what I consture as pneumonia last week. I feel better now. The deep, guttaral cough is gone, thank heaven. As of this morning, I've lost 9 pounds. I can see the difference around my waste. I'm happy about that. I've not even been working out religiously for I was ill. I do feel better a little as well. I've had no real cravings to speak of. I've also been drinking a lot more water, which seems to help. I'm just taking it a day at a time. I'm going to check into getting a product like Dual Action Cleanse or Almighty Cleanse or perhaps another to facilitate the process.
I do know from experience if I continue eating vegetables and fruit and grains and beans that I will eventually have a good evacuation. As it is, I'm confident my colon has a lot of stuff on its walls that need to be taken off. I think that the best bet is for a herbal cleanse like Dual Action Cleanse or another to do that. The psyllium seed and slippery elm do work for me quite well, but the bulk of the evacuation fecal matter wasn't what I'd hoped when I was taking it every day at the beginning of this "fiber fast."
Incidentally, this morning I tried a health food recipe I have in a book I bought a few years ago called, "God's Banquet Table." Most health food recipes are nasty tasting I've found from experience. I bought a book about two years called "Living on Live Food" from Alissa Cohen. I tried the recipe BBQ Chicken Fingers with Honey Mustard Sauce and it was revolting. Plus, it was a pain in the #%@ to make.
I couldn't get the fingers to stick together so it turned out to be small pieces here and there. I bought a dehydrator and tried other dishes but then I found out how expensive it was to have the dehydrator on all day. For her calzone, you have to have it on for 14 to 18 hours straight after having it on for 3 to 4 hours in the initial stage. In California, electricity is expensive. The one thing that was okay to make was Angel Hair Pasta with Marinara. It wasn't that bad and even was kinda good although I do like my pasta to be warm. It's easy to make too -- the Angel Hair Pasta with Marinara. I also tried her Chocolate Cake with Whipped Cream and Toppings and her corn chips.....It didn't go that well.
I didn't like it at all. The cake was not delicious at all and the corn paste wouldn't firm up for the chips. The whole reason for the dehydrator is to preserve the enzymes and thus the live nutrients in the food. With the strict adherence to the 110 degrees Farenheit, it takes hours to get it to firm up. (Almost all of her recipes call for heat no hotter than 110 degrees Farenheit.) After it finally firmed up, number one, it didn't look like the picture in the book and 2) it didn't taste good at all. I threw the whole thing out after a few bites.
I remember trying a recipe from this book I bought around 1982 called The Uncook Book. I tried some of the "bread" recipes and they about made me gag. Truth is, I like to eat good food. What I want to do is balance it with eating healthy most of the time. I don't know if I could ever go totally raw as Alissa Cohen has and others for I don't want to spend all that time making food. If I was wealthy and could afford my own cook, I would hire somebody to make all the recipes I want, but that's not realistic.
The book, God's Banquet Table, though, seems to be a nice change. The recipes I've tried are actually pretty good. I made this Mexican Salsa and it is really tasty (I used it as a vegetable dip). This morning I made Sweet Potato Pudding and it surprised me as to how good it was. Usually, I don't know why this is the case either, but I've avoided sweet potatoes. The recipe I had to modify as I didn't have any cantaloupe but I did have two fresh mangos so I substituted that instead. The recipe goes like this:
- 1 mango
- 1/2 a sweet potato peeled, of course
- 3 tablespoons of Sucanat (freeze-dried cane sugar -- it's totally organic and is sweet and delicious)
- 5 ice cubes
- a pinch of cinnamon
Then, mix them all up in your blender. If you have a vitamix, it's a snap. I have a ChampHP3, which is identical to a Vitamix. The ChampHP3 is the one they use in JambaJuices. Try it, you'll like it.
The Mexican Salsa recipe is as follows. Try it, it's a nice vegetable dip or can even be used with chips if you eat those:
- 1 avocado
- 1/2 tsp. cumin
- 1/2 tsp. dried oregano (I substituted fresh dill)
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- pinch of sea salt
I hope you'll give it a go. It's delicious and has a nice smell too.
Feb 9th.
I ended the fiber fast at 22 days. Why? Not because of addiction pangs or withdrawal symptoms. Not at all. Yes, the monotony of the same food bothered me, but I ended it as I wasn't making the progress I wanted. I think the key difference between now and 1982 when I did this is that my intestinal wall has an 24 to 25 years of encrustation building up or "mucoid plaque" as it's called. The herbs I've been taking haven't worked as well as I had hoped although they do work but just not as fast.
Two points. One "supplement" I've been taking besides the pharmaceutical grade vitamin supplement I take everyday is one small packet of Metamucil fiber wafers (I've talked about this previously). It comes in two flavors, apple and cinammon. You take the two wafers with eight ounces of water or juice (I prefer juice) and it serves as a bulking agent in the intestinal tract. Believe it or not, it works really well. It always produces substantially more fecal matter both in size and girth from the normal excrement. Yes, I know this is disgusting to talk about but it must be in order to be as clear as possible.
Quick point. Think about this: when we were younger (I'm 44), our excrement was very large and round. Have you noticed how as you get older the size and girth or circumference of the fecal matter is significantly less than it was when you were younger? The reason is because the walls of the intestines and the colon become encrusted with old fecal matter that can become like rubber and as hard!
I've not given up on this. I know I need to really cleanse my intestines but I'm no longer convinced that just eating a fiber only diet will produce the colon cleansing that is required after a buildup of 24 to 25 years. I was taking the psyllium seed and slippery elm concoction daily in the beginning and it wasn't doing that much like it has done in the past. The Metamucil wafers produced actually more bulking than the psyllium seed and slippery elm concoction drink (plus it was and is much easier to ingest to say the least).
With all this said, this is now the plan: I intend to investigate the different colon cleansing products on the market to see which one is the best. I've been reading about one the last couple of days that looks promising. Promising as they are third-party certified as to the organic quality of their ingredients. The testimonials are also incredible. I'll let you know how it turns out. In other words, I'll let you know which product I intend to use and I'll log the results.
Feb. 12.
I'm still looking at the different products out there. I just heard of another one today that I'm going to look into. I heard about it from a lady who has been reading this blog. That was a nice surprise. About three days ago, I checked my web stats and was really surprised to see that this page is getting almost as much traffic as my home page! I think I've hit upon something people want to know about. The problem is sifting through the morass of hype and marketing exaggeration. If you've read my home page of this site, you know how jaded I got regarding vitamin supplements before I found a pharmaceutical-grade quality supplement that was/is actually undersold and hyped. (Not surprisingly, there not even in the US.)
I've been using the Metamucil wafers daily in the morning after I take my favorite vitamin supplement. The Metamucil box of wafers is only about $6.75 but may be cheaper in other parts of the US (not sure if they're available in New Zealand, Canada, or Europe). I'd recommend you pick it up. It does a good job. Not surprisingly, one of the ingredients is psyllium. Back to the colon cleansing product I want to experiment with, I want to nail down my choice of products by the end of this week. The one I'm leaning toward is not well known but their testimonials are really remarkable, which they support with (gag!) pictures. The results of their customers is nothing short of astonishing.
The pictures are disgusting but very revealing. What also caught my eye was the need to take the cleansing herbal combination with an accompanying juice fast. I've done many juice fasts. I've been on at least 10 three-day, pure juice fasts in my life. (The longest I've gone is four days. I could've gone longer for I wasn't even hungry.) When I say "juice fast" let me explain what that is. It doesn't work with the juice you buy at a grocery store. That juice is pasteurized meaning the enzymes in the juice are killed. The enzymes are "alive" and are as such until they are pasteurized.
Most fruit juices you see at your local grocer also have additives. So, they're essentially nutrition-less. That's not to say they don't have their place. I drink those fruit juices all the time as they're convenient and don't harm anything when they're taken with slippery elm & psyllium seed (that herbal concoction surrounds it and isolates it in the stomach). You have to do a juice fast with freshly made, raw fruit juice or vegetable juice. A favorite of mine, and it's incredibly nutritious, is carrot juice. I also like apple juice. Also, I also combine apple and carrot too. Believe it or not, it's very, very good -- and good for you.
Yes, I admit I'm lazy too. I have a juicer, a very good juicer in fact (the Jack LaLane one -- don't laugh -- it's a pretty good product). The reason why I don't juice much is 1) because I want the fiber of the fruits and vegetables I eat on a daily basis right now and because it's a pain in the rump to clean. That's something they don't tell you when they sell their juicers. It's a production to make carrot juice or apple juice -- believe me. I have made tons of carrot-apple or carrot-parsley-apple as well as fresh, home-made grape juice but it's a big deal. Again, like I said earlier, if I had an inhouse chef I'd have them making it daily. I'd do it if I had cancer or something and was trying to heal myself but the nuisance of making it outweighs the benefits right now.
Well, back to work. I've got something cool to share with you tomorrow, though. I'm not the only one who has tried a fiber-only diet. Natural medicine, herbs, and holistic medicine are gaining more and more acceptance in the US. I have a story to share with you on a relatively famous person who went on a vegetable only diet a few years ago and I'll let you know the results he experienced.
Feb. 19.
My apologies. I can't believe a week has gone by since I last wrote. Like I said in my last posting, I'm checking out different colon cleansers. I'm looking at Dual Action Cleanse, Colonix, Martha Volchok's product, and another. I'm leaning toward Colonix and Volchok's product. I like Volchok's product for one reason that is compelling: their products are third-party certified for quality. The others from what I can tell don't have that. This is important to me as A LOT of supplement companies deceive the public with exaggerated claims of profiency and the product's efficacy. Supplement fraud for lack of a better term is rampant.
I was going to mention something in the last thread. Former NBA basketball coach Rudy Tomajonvich was diagnosed with cancer and for two months ate only raw vegetables and drank only water. (You can read about it here on my Men's Health page.) So, you see? I'm not the only one person who has seen the light regarding cleansing their system. The German philosopher Arthur Schoepenhauer (not sure about the spelling of his surname there) said, "Truth goes through three phases: 1) it is violently opposed, 2) it is ridiculed and 3) it is accepted as self-evident. The exposing of the inadequacies of Western medicine is growing slowly but surely. As I've said previously in this site, the combining of the best of Western medicine and herbal and naturopathic medicine would be ideal. Something is wrong when the pharmaceutical drug companies are so profitable and yet a lot of their drugs are rife with side effects (like Prozac). Dr. Marcia Angell said in her book, The Truth About Drug Companies,
"The combined profits for the ten drug companies in the Fortune 500 ($35.9 billion) were more than the profits for all the other 490 businesses put together ($33.7 billion). Over the past two decades the pharmaceutical industry has moved very far from its original high purpose of discovering and producing useful new drugs. Now primarily a marketing machine to sell drugs of dubious benefit, this industry uses its wealth and power to co-opt every institution that might stand in its way, including the US Congress, the FDA, academic medical centers, and the medical profession itself."
That's frightening and astonishing and pathetic all in one. Marcia Angell is no quack. She is the former editor in chief of the New England Journal of Medicine. She's currently a lecturer at the Harvard Medical School. Additionally, the New York Times said this about her book, ""A scorching indictment of drug companies and their research and business practices...tough, persuasive and troubling." Well, that's it for now.
Feb 27, 2007.
After looking at a number of colon cleansing products on the market, I narrowed it down to two -- Colonix and Blessed Herbs. Why? With Colonix, I don't think I've ever seen a website with more testimonials. The testimonials range from astonishing to shocking to informative. I also read the list of ingredients and was impressed thereby. I have a good working knowledge of herbs and herbal medicine so I feel confident in that knowledge (I've been studying it as a dilentate for over 25 years). I'm impressed by the Blessed Herbs product too as their ingredients are herbal too and what's more they are a certified organic facility. That's important as there is a lot of deceit in the herbal supplement and nutritional supplement industry at large. Quality of ingredients is important but nobody really thinks about it but takes it for granted. I just bought a three-month supply of Colonix and will chronicle the results, good or bad, that I receive. Once I get it, which should be Friday they told me, I will began taking it and will start eating again an all-fiber diet that day as well and will so follow it for the 90 days of the colonix program. If they recommend something different, I will follow their guidelines. After the 90 days are expired, I will then test the product by Blessed Herbs.
March 3, 2007.
I received the Colonix product yesterday. I read through the instructions and it appears pretty brain-dead simple actually. They recommend one change their diet to eat as many vegetables, fruits, and grains as possible too. This is not a surprise. They do recommend against eating processed foods, alcohol, and junk food during the cleanse, which is expected too. Basically, the instructions are as follows:
-
Two capsules of Paranil capsules
-
1/2 scoop of Colonix fiber in juice or water
-
1 cup of KleriTea before bed
-
Drink eight glasses (2 liters) of pure water throughout the day
That's pretty simple. It's not complicated. That's for the first five days, by the way. For days six through 90, the capsules of Paranil go from two to four -- everything else remains the same. The Colonix intestinal cleanse ris a fiber powder made with extra high-grade psyllium along with 13 other herbal ingredients and natural banana flavor (I've not had it yet). The Paranil is an anti-parasite support product that is made with 18 herbs and is in a carbohydrate gum, which is a natural vegicap shell -- the capsules themselves are made with vegetable capsules). Lastly, the KleriTea is used for detoxification and regularity. It's in a tea bag. It has 11 herbs in it and has natural lemon flavor added. One thing that I noticed about the Paranil capsules is that they have a COA -- a certificate of analysis stamp with the bottle. This is important as it confirms the potency of each batch. The Colonix fiber has the same COA stamp as well. While this didn't serve as a big factor in my decision to buy the product to test it, Colonix was awarded the Natural Healing Today magazine #1 Colon Cleanser award. The product was also sanctioned or endorsed by THe Global College of Natural Medicine.
So, I think I'm off to a good start. I will start the Colonix program on Monday, March 5th for 90 days. After that I will take a two week breather from the program and start the Blessed Herbs product, which I think very highly of as well. If you've been following this blog, you know that while I did lose about 8 pounds during my 22 days of fiber-only eating, I didn't have any other significant bowel evacuation. My feeling is that my colon and/or intestines are toxic and have a significant amount of rubber-like mucoid placque lining its walls. (The guy over at QuackWatch.com disputes the legitimacy of mucoid placque, but after seeing so many astonishing testimonials at drnatura.com and at blessedherbs.com, I am convinced that is the case with me.) I didn't write this previously but during the 22 days when I was on the all-fiber diet, on days where I had the psyllium seed and slippery elm fiber drink and the Metamucil crackers along with a big bowl of vegetables or fruit, I noticed speckles of black all over my bowel movement (again, I know this is disgusting to talk about but I feel it's necessary).
That is an indication to me that my colon wall has significant mucoid placque lining its walls. I started this blog with the experience I had in 1982 when I cleaned my colon and intestines out then. While I can significantly clean out my intestines with a diet exclusive fiber laden, I don't think that's sufficient to clean out the 25 years of build up on my colon wall. I've abused myself with bad food at times in my life. Too much junk food and processed foods. What's ironic is that I was a vegetarian for about seven years. I don't eat meat now but sparingly and I don't eat red meat really at all. I've only eated it on pizza and about five to seven times in the past 20 years have I had a steak of something similiar. Still, process foods and junk food isn't conducive to a healthy intestinal tract either.
March 6, 2007.
This is the second day of the colon cleanse. (I'm writing this on the morning of March 6th, 2007.) It was simple to follow. I didn't experience any results really, but the morning of 3/6/07 I did. I had a good movement with no mucoid placque or parasites (hopefully there will be no parasites -- yuk!). This morning I've had two movements and my colon and intestines seem a flurry of activity right now. I am having rumblings and the like and have had that all morning. Taking the Paranil capsules is easy. The drink is not that bad either although it's not something I'd drink for fun. But, who said colon cleansing checklist stuff is fun. The KleriTea is okay. I've tasted worse for sure. This evening, I will add a teaspoon of honey to it, which should help. I didn't drink eight glasses of water but did drink about six. This in truth is the hardest thing for me. Drinking so much water in the past is what contributed to my nascent prostate problem, which has been mitigated by the vitamin I take. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Afternoon, 2:35 p.m. PST:
Just this morning I had two movements and about 10 minutes ago I had my first "yuk" movement. The fecal matter had or was composed in part of disgusting globule attachments that were very dark colored but what they were attached to were lighter colored. It was unlike anything I've ever defecated before. After just a day and a half and I'm impressed. The psyllium seed and slippery elm combination I so espouse never helped me eliminate something like this. I'm amazed. We'll see what else comes out as I continue on the program.
March 7th.
This morning is only the third day and already I've seen results. I'm amazed to be honest. This morning, I had two small movements. During the night, I was actually awakened by the pains in my colon or upper intestine. Most people don't even know where the upper colon is. When they get a pain there, they just think it's their stomach. It was umcomfortable, very uncomfortable. I had similiar feelings in my intestines this morning too. It was much more intense than yesterday. Yesterday, I put in about three quarters of a scoop instead of the 1/2 recommended for the first five days. That might have had something to do with it. I can say this, the force of the Colonix powder is very powerful. It's a very potent colon cleansing formula. It's jus the third day so we'll see how it goes. If I have results daily like I've been having for the entire 30 days, well that'll be interesting. We'll see.
March 8th.
Fourth day. I'm seeing results by using the Colonix product, there's no doubt about that. This morning I had three movements. The first was quite a significant amount of fecal matter. It was chocolate brown colored and broken up in pieces. (I know this is gross to talk about but bear with me.) The second movement, which was only about 20 minutes from the first, was basically the same with much less fecal matter. The third spaced about 10 minutes from that movement was mostly water or fluid. Now, here's the kicker. Last night around six in the morning, I was woke up by deep, terrible pains in my colon. It was like I could feel the fecal matter moving through (the herbs). It was in the same place as the previous day's pains -- right below my navel area. It was painful. I had six or seven more such episodes of tangible, face crinkling pain. The first was the most painful by far and it lessened in intensity after that. Again, it literally woke me up it hurt so bad. I'm amazed that only half a scoop of the Colonix formula and two capsules could produce such pains in the colon. Even if you combine that with the cup of Kleri tea before bed it's amazing. So, thus far, the results are certainly there. I can say this: this Colonix product is the most potent colon cleansing product I've ever come across -- that's natural anyway. (When I was a kid, I ate a whole bar thing of X-lax that I thought was chocolate. Mistake. I was only seven at the time but remember it.
March 9th.
Fifth day. So far so good. This morning I only had two strong colon pains. The first woke me up again, though. Again, I'm amazd that such little powder in the Colonix program can be so powerful. They should call it Colon Blow. I had a good movement again this morning and another small one about half an hour later. So far, it's been like clockwork. In the morning is when all this happens for me. I can say so far, I'm impressed by the results. I'll just keep plugging along one day at a time. Truth is, doing the colon cleanse checklist with Colonix is simple and not time consuming: Two capsules in the morning, one glass of juice with the scoop of Colonix and a cup of tea with the KleriTea and that's it. And, of course, a lot of water throughout the day.
March 12th.
Eighth day. Nothing exceptional to report for the sixth and seventh days. Same story different day really. I had three movements on day six, four on day seven -- all within three hours of each other. In other words, in a three-hour span, I had four movements. These aren't normal movements. Lots of weird stuff is coming out and different colored stuff. The fecal matter is mostly orangy colored. This Colonix sure does work, that's all I can say. On days six and seven, I had the usual terrible deep colon pains in in my belly button area -- six on each day. Again, on both days, it woke me up it was so painful. This morning, I've already had a very good movement but only had two episodes of the deep-seated colon pain. That's doable for me. Thus far, that's the only thing difficult about this program -- the deep colon pains. I've already lost some weight, though, and I can get into a pair of jeans I hadn't been able to for months. They're not tight anymore. My stomach is noticeably smaller. (I still have to lose the fat around it, which will help.) I can tell a difference. I no longer have any doubts about Colonix -- it really does work. It's a great colon cleansing product.
March 13th.
Ninth day. Same stuff as previously -- three movements in the morning -- always in the morning. Cramps that were severe again. This time I had about five. One of them woke me up. I decided to re-read some of the instructions to see if there was something I was missing. I read you should allow the KleriTea to steep more than two minutes after the initial period. It does say this, "It is normal to feel a strong urge to evacuate first thing in the morning, accompanied by slight cramping - especially during the first few days. KleriTea works by causing mild contractions in the bowels, helping to expel feces, build-up debris and parasites." "Slight cramping"? Slight is not the word I'd choose. I'd choose "stong" "painful" "intense." It's tolerable, though. It works but if you take it be aware. I also haven't probably drinking enough water. They recommend "at least 8 glasses of pure unfiltered water." I will try to achieve that today.
March 15th.
The eleventh day. Same stuff. Nothing new to report really. This morning I just had two painful cramps, which I'll take. Plan and simple this product works.
April 2nd.
Nothing has really changed that much. I've taken a few days off here and there from using the Colonix. Its cramping is difficult at times. I have noticed it works faster and better if I eat a diet rich in fiber, i.e., fruits, vegetables, and grains. When I eat processed food or anything non-fiber oriented, the results aren't as good. I have noticed some interesting coloration in my fecal matter too. It sure does work, I can tell you that. As it took more and more "caked" fecal matter on my intestinal walls, the color got darker and darker and darker. This product does work.
December 8th
I di't finish this and I'm sorry for that. I know what to do but fell through. I guess that's somehting to be aware of if you try to do this.
